Guidance on your research journey is here!
After a combined 60 years in animal welfare research and animal ethics, we have started ethicoNZ. Now, we share our passion and experience by helping others design and deliver their own research. We also directly deliver contract animal welfare research that is recognised for its quality and creativity. Talk to us today about how we can support your project and put you on a solid track to results and delivery.
We will listen carefully to your needs then leverage the power of a wide team with expertise in data science, engineering, and veterinary science, to deliver an expert, bespoke solution.
Growing from an interest in improving the lives of animals and recognising that there are many facets that contribute to their welfare, Gosia has developed a diverse portfolio of research expertise, including goat, cow, sheep, rodent and companion animal behaviour. She has a strong interest in developing sustainable future systems, and with over two decades of experience in conducting research both in Aotearoa New Zealand and overseas, has strong analytical, experimental design, and communication skills. Jim has a background in agricultural science, which gives his knowledge of animal research, a firm grounding in the practicalities of animal production.
He has had a fulfilling career in physiology, animal welfare research and animal ethics evaluation and approval; this is a unique combination of skills relevant to current challenges for many organisations.
During this time, he has served as a director and on boards of non-profits such as Global Animal Partnership and AAALAC. In 2025 he joined the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (NAEAC).
Promoting respectful relationships with animals, whether for food or in research, has been a strong driver for his choices.
We provide a unique service to clients by building a custom team for each project. We have an active group of expert collaborators with a wide range of skills that are included on our project teams as relevant.
These people include a NZ registered veterinarian, an AI strategist, a dashboard developer, a social scientist, and several data scientists. This means your project’s journey gets expert oversight over all aspects from inception to delivery!
Our expertise and experience includes research on species such as cattle, sheep, goats, deer, pigs, poultry and rodents.
We have recently assisted successful grant applications such as Ontario Agri-Food Research Initiative and Callaghan Innovation R & D Experience Grant.
We recognise that research success is much more than peer-reviewed publications, but we have almost 200 that are testament to the relevance and rigorous scientific methodology we apply.
See our publication list at the links below.
Ethics and compliance applications require specific knowledge of the statutory requirements and review process to have the maximum chance of success.
With over 20 years experience with animal ethics review and decisions, we can make this compliance process fly for you.
Our Code of Ethical Conduct was approved by MPI on 19 December 2024 and we are in the process of putting together our Animal Ethics Committee. We will then be able to offer access by external organisations to this committee under parenting arrangements.
We believe that technology should be used, but only when it adds value. Our experience applying research technology to deliver the data required and no more, means less time wasted in deployment, lower cost and easier analysis and interpretation.
We have a track record in finding creative solutions to answer the big picture.
Once we understand your goals we will drive it with a passion and energy like it is our own.
